Prime Minister Narendra Modi Arrives in Jakarta, Begins Six-Day Three-Nation Tour
Jakarta, July 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jakarta on Tuesday, marking the beginning of his six-day, three-nation tour covering Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand. The visit aims to strengthen India's strategic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region and deepen cooperation in defence, trade, investment, maritime security, and critical minerals.
Prime Minister Modi received a ceremonial welcome upon his arrival at Jakarta's airport, where Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto personally welcomed him in a rare diplomatic gesture, reflecting the growing strategic ties between the two countries. The Prime Minister's aircraft was also escorted by Indonesian Air Force fighter jets as it entered the country's airspace.
During his stay in Indonesia, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Prabowo Subianto. The discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in defence, critical minerals, maritime security, digital connectivity, clean energy, trade, investment, and regional issues related to the Indo-Pacific.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to interact with members of the Indian diaspora in Jakarta before proceeding to Australia. In Australia, he will meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, participate in high-level business engagements, and hold discussions aimed at further strengthening the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The final leg of the tour will take Prime Minister Modi to New Zealand, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in nearly four decades. The visit is expected to open new avenues of cooperation in trade, education, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges while reinforcing India's engagement with key partners across the Indo-Pacific.
