U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed gratitude to India after a road in Hyderabad was named "Donald Trump Avenue," describing the gesture as an "unprecedented honour." The acknowledgement came through a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, shortly after the road was officially inaugurated.
Sharing an image of the newly named avenue, Trump wrote:
"The new Donald Trump Avenue in Hyderabad, India. The first U.S. President to ever be honored in this way. Thank you!"
The message quickly gained attention online, with many viewing it as another sign of the close relationship between India and the United States.
A Symbol of India–U.S. Partnership
The road, located near the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad's Financial District, was renamed by the Telangana government. Officials said the move marks the 250th anniversary of American Independence and celebrates the deepening strategic, economic, and diplomatic ties between the two democracies.
The avenue is situated in one of Hyderabad's major technology corridors, surrounded by offices of several leading American multinational companies.
Political Debate Follows
While supporters welcomed the move as a diplomatic gesture highlighting India–U.S. friendship, the decision also triggered political reactions. Critics questioned the naming of a public road after a foreign political leader, leading to a broader debate over the government's decision.
Despite the differing opinions, Trump's public message of appreciation has brought international attention to the newly named Donald Trump Avenue.
