Amb-Andaura, June 6: Member of Parliament and former Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur on Saturday formally flagged off the Gurumukhi Superfast Express from Amb-Andaura railway station, marking the launch of a direct rail connection between Himachal Pradesh and eastern India.
The new service is expected to significantly enhance connectivity for passengers from Himachal Pradesh by providing direct access to Kolkata and several major cities along the route. The train's extension to Amb-Andaura is being seen as a major boost to long-distance rail travel from the region.
According to railway officials, the Gurumukhi Superfast Express departs Kolkata every Thursday at 7:40 a.m. and reaches Amb-Andaura on Friday at 7:10 p.m. On its return journey, the train leaves Amb-Andaura every Saturday at 6:10 a.m. and arrives in Kolkata on Sunday at 2:50 p.m.
The service will provide direct rail connectivity to important destinations including Ambala, Saharanpur, Roorkee, Moradabad, Bareilly, Lucknow, Asansol, as well as major religious centres such as Varanasi and Patna Sahib.
Previously, the train operated only up to Nangal Dam. With its extension to Amb-Andaura, passengers from Himachal Pradesh will now enjoy improved travel options and easier access to eastern India. The Gurumukhi Superfast Express will operate as a weekly service.
The extension is expected to benefit tourism, trade, and regional connectivity while offering greater convenience to travelers heading towards Punjab, Delhi, and eastern parts of the country.
