Dharamshala, June 5 : Tibetan spiritual leader 14th Dalai Lama has extended his congratulations to D. K. Shivakumar following his election as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

In a message addressed to the newly elected Chief Minister, His Holiness highlighted the special bond between Karnataka and the Tibetan community. He noted that the state is home to more than 30,000 Tibetans in exile, making it the largest centre of the Tibetan diaspora in India. He expressed deep gratitude to the government and people of Karnataka for their longstanding friendship, support, and hospitality.

The Dalai Lama also underscored Karnataka’s significance as the home of several major Tibetan monastic institutions and centres of learning that preserve and promote the ancient Nalanda tradition of Indian wisdom. He described this as a matter of great pride for the Tibetan community.

Expressing appreciation for the warmth extended to Tibetans who have settled in the state over the decades, the Dalai Lama thanked the Karnataka government and its people for creating an environment in which Tibetan culture, education, and spiritual traditions have flourished.

Conveying his best wishes, His Holiness said he hoped D.K. Shivakumar would successfully meet the challenges ahead and fulfil the aspirations of the people of Karnataka. He particularly emphasized the importance of improving the lives of the state's most vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens.

The message concluded with prayers and good wishes for the Chief Minister’s successful tenure and for the continued prosperity and well-being of the people of Karnataka.
