Congress Government Has Made a Mockery of Key Administrative Appointments: Rakesh Jamwal
Regular Appointment for Just 4–5 Days Reflects Administrative Instability in Himachal Pradesh
Questions Raised Over Appointment Amid Allegations and Pending Court Challenge
Shimla, May 26 - BJP State Chief Spokesperson Rakesh Jamwal said that the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has turned important administrative appointments into a mockery. He stated that appointing senior IAS officer Sanjay Gupta as the regular Chief Secretary for merely four to five days reflects the government’s confused and unstable administrative functioning.
Jamwal said that Sanjay Gupta had already been serving as the Acting Chief Secretary with additional charge since October 1, 2025, and formalizing his appointment just days before his retirement has raised serious questions regarding the intentions and priorities of the state government.
He alleged that the Congress government is functioning in an authoritarian manner and is pressurizing government officers while taking administrative decisions. According to Jamwal, instead of strengthening the administrative structure of the state, the government is focused on politically motivated decisions.
The BJP leader further said that appointing someone to such a crucial constitutional and administrative post for an extremely short duration is an insult to the administrative system and negatively affects the morale of officers working within the government machinery.
Rakesh Jamwal also pointed out that the appointment has come at a time when serious allegations and controversies related to Sanjay Gupta are already under public discussion. He referred to allegations linked to the Chester Hill matter and said that questions regarding the issue have consistently been raised in the public domain.
He further stated that the matter has also been challenged before the High Court. According to the petition, FIRs related to corruption matters and concerns regarding vigilance clearance have already been raised against Sanjay Gupta. Despite this, the Congress government proceeded with the appointment, ignoring transparency and administrative accountability.
Jamwal said that transparency in administrative decision-making has completely disappeared under the present Congress regime and accused the government of working only to benefit its favored individuals. He added that the people of Himachal Pradesh are closely watching the functioning of the government and the Congress party will have to answer for its actions in the coming time.
