Farmers’ Leader Urges State Representatives to Emulate the Gesture

The people of Himachal Pradesh express their gratitude to Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for donating ₹5 crore to aid the state in the wake of the massive devastation caused by recent floods. This statement was made today by Deepak Sharma, National Coordinator of the All India Kisan Congress. He emphasized that Rahul Gandhi’s step reflects his sensitivity and deep concern for Himachal.

Deepak Sharma noted that while some public representatives merely fulfilled formalities, the people and social workers of the state wholeheartedly stepped forward to provide assistance, fulfilling their responsibilities. He urged all representatives to contribute generously to disaster relief during this crisis and take inspiration from Rahul Gandhi’s actions.
He criticized the BJP MP from Mandi district for making irresponsible statements and failing to provide any aid, calling it a display of insensitivity that deserves strong condemnation. In contrast, he praised the inspiring efforts of social workers in the state who distributed substantial funds and resources, urging all public representatives to follow their example.

Sharma stressed that the Himachal government needs to conduct an in-depth study on various aspects of the recurring disasters during monsoons. He highlighted the need for widespread debate on factors harming the environment—such as illegal construction, deforestation, and mining—to take appropriate corrective and preventive measures.

Additionally, the All India Kisan Congress is conducting a detailed assessment of farmers' losses in flood-affected areas to advocate for special relief from the state and central governments.
