Words Like “Dwarf”, “Fugitive”, “Tadipaar” and Remarks on “Aukaat” Cross Limits of Political Decency; BJP to Submit Electronic Evidence to Police: Jamwal

Shimla, August 24, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly objected to the alleged derogatory and objectionable remarks made by Congress leader Pawan Khera against Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah and has demanded registration of an FIR against him in Shimla.

A BJP delegation comprising Chief Spokesperson and MLA Rakesh Jamwal, MLAs Satpal Singh Satti, D.S. Thakur and Dileep Thakur submitted a written complaint addressed to the Superintendent of Police, Shimla, through the Additional SP, seeking legal action against Pawan Khera.

BJP Chief Spokesperson Rakesh Jamwal said that Pawan Khera had publicly used words such as “dwarf”, “fugitive” and “tadipaar”, besides making remarks about the “aukaat” (status/stature) of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Jamwal said political disagreements and criticism are an integral part of democracy, but the use of such language against the Union Home Minister crosses the limits of political decency and lowers the standard of public discourse.

He said the BJP has submitted a written complaint requesting the police to examine the matter under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and any other applicable legal provisions. The party will also provide the police with relevant videos, social media material and other electronic evidence pertaining to the alleged remarks.

Jamwal said the complaint specifically seeks preservation and examination of the original and unedited video/audio recordings and social media posts relating to Pawan Khera’s statement. The BJP has requested that the entire context of the statement be investigated and all electronic and digital evidence be preserved in accordance with law. If the investigation establishes the ingredients of a cognisable offence, an FIR should be registered and appropriate legal action initiated.

Pawan Khera’s Language After Amit Shah’s Remarks on Vande Mataram Highly Condemnable: Jamwal

Rakesh Jamwal said the controversy arose following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks concerning Vande Mataram. He said Vande Mataram played a historic role in inspiring patriotism during India’s freedom struggle, and countless freedom fighters made supreme sacrifices for the country while raising the slogan of Vande Mataram.

He said there can be political debate over the Congress party’s historical position and the decisions taken in 1937 regarding the singing of Vande Mataram, and every political party has the democratic right to present its views. However, such a debate cannot become a justification for personal insults or indecent language against a political opponent.

Jamwal said the language allegedly used by Pawan Khera was inconsistent with the dignity and healthy traditions of democratic politics.

Dignity of Constitutional and Important Public Offices Must Be Respected

Rakesh Jamwal said that irrespective of the intensity of political or ideological differences, every political party has a responsibility to maintain dignity in public discourse.

“The policies and decisions of the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, Chief Minister or any other person holding an important constitutional or public office can certainly be criticised, but personal insults should never become a substitute for political debate,” he said.

Jamwal said the BJP has sought an impartial and lawful investigation by the police and expects prompt action after examining the available evidence.

He reiterated that the BJP would provide the complete video and other electronic evidence to the police and demanded that an FIR be registered against Pawan Khera in Shimla and strict action be taken in accordance with law.
