Congress Government Tried to Control Temple Resources, Now Seeks Political Gains in the Name of Ram Temple: Kangana Ranaut
Shimla: Member of Parliament from the Mandi parliamentary constituency, Kangana Ranaut, on Wednesday accused the Congress of indulging in political opportunism by attempting to use Lord Ram and the Ram Temple for electoral gains. She said the party, which had opposed the construction of the Ram Temple for decades, is now trying to project itself as a defender of religious faith despite its past stand.
Kangana Ranaut said that Lord Ram is the spiritual and cultural symbol of millions of Indians, and the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya is the culmination of centuries of faith, sacrifice, and struggle. She alleged that the Congress consistently pursued appeasement politics and created obstacles in the path of the temple's construction, but is now attempting to exploit the same issue for political advantage after the temple has become a reality.
The BJP MP further claimed that the conduct of the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has exposed its "double standards." She alleged that the state government attempted to exercise control over temple properties and financial resources by seeking to use temple funds for government schemes. "In such a situation, Congress leaders speaking about the Ram Temple and religious faith only reflects political hypocrisy and opportunism," she said.
Ranaut asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has always remained committed to protecting Sanatan traditions, religious faith, and India's cultural heritage. She said the BJP has never treated faith as a vote-bank issue but has respected it as an integral part of the nation's civilisational identity.
She added that the people of Himachal Pradesh are looking for development, good governance, and public welfare rather than politics centred on religious sentiments. The MP urged the Congress to answer questions regarding its governance, unfulfilled promises to the youth, and developmental commitments instead of "politicising a sacred issue like the Ram Temple."
