Una (Himachal Pradesh): Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, alleging that it is "murdering democracy" in the state, much like the Emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975.
Addressing a press conference in Una, Thakur said, "Just as Indira Gandhi imposed the Emergency and killed democracy in the country, the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh today is also killing democracy."
He accused the ruling Congress of misleading voters with "false guarantees" during the Assembly elections and claimed that public support for the party has eroded significantly.
Thakur asserted that the BJP's performance in the recent local body elections reflects growing public dissatisfaction with the Congress government. He claimed that BJP candidates secured victories even in the home regions of several senior Congress leaders, indicating a shift in public sentiment.
"The people of Himachal Pradesh have made up their minds to wipe out the Congress from the state," he said, expressing confidence that the BJP will continue to strengthen its position in the coming elections.
The BJP leader also alleged that the Congress government has failed to fulfil its election promises and is losing the trust of the people due to what he described as poor governance and unfulfilled guarantees.
