BJP Holds Majority in Solan Municipal Corporation, Yet Congress Is Trying to Hijack the People's Mandate: Rakesh Jamwal
Congress Government Misusing Administrative Machinery and Changing Rules to Undermine Democracy: BJP
Congress Wants to Capture the Mayor and Deputy Mayor Posts Through Abuse of Power, Not Democratic Means: Rakesh Jamwal
Shimla: BJP State Chief Spokesperson and MLA Rakesh Jamwal has accused the Congress government of attempting to undermine democracy by misusing state machinery to overturn the people's mandate in the Solan Municipal Corporation. He said that despite the BJP enjoying a clear majority in the corporation, the Congress government is making every possible effort to manipulate the democratic process and capture the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor through unfair and unethical means.
Jamwal alleged that on 23 June, the state government amended the relevant rules with the sole intention of influencing the election process. He said that the earlier legal mechanism for handling such matters involved multiple stages of scrutiny and appeal, but the government has now concentrated greater powers at a single administrative level, raising serious concerns about the fairness and transparency of the process.
He further alleged that the Congress government is targeting BJP-backed elected representatives in an attempt to disqualify them and alter the numerical strength in the Municipal Corporation. According to him, these actions are aimed at overturning the clear mandate given by the people of Solan.
"The Congress government is not interested in conducting elections in a fair and democratic manner. It wants to hijack the people's verdict by abusing its authority and using the administrative machinery for political gains," Jamwal said.
He urged government officials to act strictly in accordance with the Constitution, the law, and their own conscience rather than succumbing to political pressure. "Civil servants are accountable to the Constitution and the rule of law, not to the political interests of the ruling party," he added.
Rakesh Jamwal said the BJP will challenge every unconstitutional and arbitrary action through both legal and democratic means. He warned that if the Congress government continues to misuse its authority to subvert the people's mandate, the BJP will fight the matter in the courts as well as before the people.
He concluded by saying that the people of Himachal Pradesh are closely watching these developments and will give a decisive response to any attempt to undermine democracy and disrespect the mandate they have delivered through the ballot box.
