At the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, Royal Challengers Bengaluru scripted history in the first qualifier of IPL 2026 by registering the highest total ever in IPL playoff history against Gujarat Titans.
Led by a sensational knock from captain Rajat Patidar, RCB posted a massive 254/5 in 20 overs. Batting at number four, Patidar delivered a breathtaking unbeaten 93 off just 33 balls, smashing 9 sixes and 5 fours to put Gujarat’s bowling attack under tremendous pressure.
With this explosive performance, RCB surpassed the previous IPL playoff record of 233/3 set by Gujarat Titans against Mumbai Indians in 2023. The innings now stands as the highest score ever recorded in an IPL knockout or playoff match.
RCB’s total also entered the list of highest scores in T20 knockout cricket worldwide. Somerset’s 265 remains the highest overall, followed by Jharkhand’s 262 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 final and India’s 255 in the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand. RCB’s 254-run effort currently ranks fourth on the all-time list.
The Bengaluru batters unleashed a boundary-hitting storm throughout the innings, hammering 38 boundaries, including 14 sixes and 24 fours. This too became a new IPL playoff record for most boundaries in a knockout encounter, surpassing the previous mark held by Chennai Super Kings from their 2012 clash against Delhi.
This was also the third-highest total in RCB’s IPL history, after their 263 against Pune Warriors India in 2013 and 262 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024.
