Shimla | Himachal on Sale Under Congress Rule”: Sandipani Bhardwaj Targets Govt Over Chester Hills Row

Updated on Sunday, April 12, 2026 13:55 PM IST

BJP state spokesperson Sandipani Bhardwaj launched a strong attack on the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government over alleged violations of Section 118 in the Chester Hills township case, calling it a reflection of a broader mindset of “putting Himachal on sale.”

He said the issue was not limited to a single project but pointed to larger concerns regarding the alleged misuse of land and resources in the state. “The slogan ‘Himachal on Sale’ is becoming a reality. Since coming to power, the Congress government has put the very identity of the state at stake,” he alleged.

Allegations of Section 118 Violation and Large-Scale Development

Bhardwaj raised questions over the reported development of nearly 275 bighas of land and construction of around 500 residential units in the Chester Hills township. She alleged that complaints regarding violations of Section 118 of the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act had been ignored for months.

“When such large-scale construction is underway and complaints have been raised repeatedly, why has the administration remained silent? Under whose pressure has no action been taken?” she questioned.

“Administrative Machinery Compromised”

The BJP leader further alleged that corruption has seeped into the administrative system and that the government has lost control over officials.

“Accountability has collapsed. Administrative inefficiency and corruption have stalled development works across the state,” she said.

Concerns Over Investors and Local Residents

Bhardwaj also claimed that the controversy has created uncertainty among investors and increased concerns among local residents. According to her, the government’s policies have negatively impacted both investment prospects and the state’s image at the national level.

Demand for Probe

Accusing the government of running a “deal-based model” instead of governance, she alleged that decisions are being taken to benefit select individuals rather than the public.

He demanded an impartial probe by an independent agency and strict action against those found guilty. “Himachal Pradesh is not for sale. BJP will continue to fight to protect the state’s dignity and resources,” she added.
