Nahan, February 24, 2026 — BJP Himachal Pradesh President Dr. Rajeev Bindal on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), describing their recent demonstration at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi as a "deliberate conspiracy" to damage India's global reputation.
The protest, which took place on February 20 during the high-profile event at Bharat Mandapam, saw around 10-12 IYC workers enter the venue using registered QR-coded passes. They removed their outer shirts in an exhibition hall to reveal T-shirts bearing slogans such as "PM Compromised," references to the India-US trade deal, and anti-government messages, while chanting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Security personnel quickly intervened, leading to detentions and subsequent arrests.Dr. Bindal termed the act "obscene" and reflective of the Congress party's "deeply irresponsible and anti-national mindset." He alleged it was not genuine political dissent but a calculated effort to embarrass India in front of international diplomats, industry leaders, and policymakers attending the summit, which ran from February 16-20 and focused on India's AI advancements and global leadership in the field."The country will not tolerate such acts that undermine national prestige for political mileage,"
Dr. Bindal said in a statement from Nahan. He emphasized that while democracy allows disagreements, they must not cross into actions harming the nation's image. "India’s image and national interest must remain above party politics," he added. The BJP leader specifically raised alarms over reports linking some individuals involved to Himachal Sadan, the state government's guest house in New Delhi. He called the alleged use of the facility "deeply concerning" and demanded thorough scrutiny. "Himachal Pradesh is known for its patriotism and contribution to national service. If any state facility was used, directly or indirectly, in connection with such an incident, it is a deeply disturbing development," he stated
.Delhi Police have arrested multiple IYC members in connection with the protest, including national president Uday Bhanu Chib, who was taken into custody on February 24 after prolonged questioning. Rioting and other charges have been added against several accused, with at least eight arrests reported so far. A Bihar-registered vehicle containing protest materials was seized near Himachal Sadan, fueling speculation about logistical support and prompting the Himachal government to seek a report on the matter.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has publicly criticized the demonstration, calling it an attempt to turn a proud national event into "dirty and naked politics."
Over 270 retired judges, bureaucrats, armed forces veterans, and around 160 academicians have condemned it as a "national disgrace," "anarchy," and a "serious lack of judgement" that harms India's technological standing on the global stage. The Congress and IYC have defended the action as a peaceful expression of youth concerns over issues like unemployment, data privacy in international trade deals, and government policies. Party leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have praised the protesters and criticized the arrests as suppression of dissent.
The incident has sparked intense political debate, with opposition allies distancing themselves from the protest's optics while the BJP frames it as part of a pattern of undermining India's achievements under PM Modi's leadership.Dr. Bindal expressed confidence that the people of Himachal Pradesh and the nation would reject such "irresponsible political theatrics" and uphold national dignity and democratic decorum.
