CBI ArrestsSanitary Inspector of ChandigarhMunicipal Corporationwhile accepting Rs. Five Lakh Bribe
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arresteda Sanitary Inspector, working in Municipal Corporation (MC), Chandigarh, in a bribery case.
The CBI registered the instant case on 07.10.2026 against the said accused on allegations that the accused SanitaryInspector demanded illegal gratification of Rs.14 Lakhfor processing/clearance of pending and future bills of the complainant’s firm. It was further alleged that the accused threatened to withhold the bills and get the firm’s tender cancelled in case the bribe was not paid.
The CBI laid a trap on 07.10.2026 and caught the accused SanitaryInspector red-handed while demanding and accepting anillegal gratification of Rs. 5 Lakh, as part payment of the demanded bribe amount, from the contractor engaged with MC Chandigarh.
Searches were conducted at the residential and office premises of the accused, which led to the recovery of incriminating documents and documents pertaining to immovable property.
The arrested accused will be produced before the Competent Court at Chandigarh today.
Further investigation is underway.
