Jawalamukhi: Jawalamukhi MLA Sanjay Rattan on Saturday inaugurated the Under-19 Zonal Boys Sports Tournament at Government Senior Secondary School, Bhadoli Kohala. The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of young athletes, with teams from different schools taking part in the zonal-level competition.
Addressing the players and students on the occasion, Sanjay Rattan highlighted the important role of sports in the overall development of students. He said that participation in sports not only improves physical fitness but also develops discipline, teamwork, leadership qualities and a sense of brotherhood among young people.
The MLA encouraged the participating teams to enter the competition with confidence and a positive attitude. He said that while every player naturally aims to win, the true value of sports lies in learning to compete with discipline, respecting opponents and accepting both victory and defeat in the right spirit.
Rattan said that sporting events at the school level provide students with an important platform to identify and develop their talent. Such competitions also help youngsters gain confidence and prepare themselves for higher-level sporting events.
He emphasized that sportsmanship should always remain above the result. Players, he said, should respect their opponents, follow the rules of the game and maintain discipline both on and off the field.
Speaking about the government's initiatives for sportspersons, Rattan said the state government has taken significant steps to encourage sporting talent. He particularly highlighted the historic increase in prize money for players winning medals at national and international levels, saying that such measures recognize the hard work of athletes and provide greater motivation to youngsters aspiring to excel in sports.
He said that Himachal Pradesh has immense sporting talent and that young players need opportunities, facilities and encouragement to take their abilities to the next level. School-level tournaments play an important role in providing that exposure and helping talented youngsters gain competitive experience.
The MLA also urged students to maintain a healthy balance between academics and sports. He said that participation in games can contribute significantly to personality development and teach lessons of perseverance, teamwork and responsibility that remain valuable throughout life.
The tournament opening ceremony was marked by an enthusiastic march-past by the participating teams. Students in their respective sports uniforms carried team flags and participated in the ceremonial proceedings, creating an energetic atmosphere at the school campus.
Sanjay Rattan extended his best wishes to all the participating teams and players and expressed hope that the tournament would provide them with a memorable sporting experience. He encouraged every participant to give their best, remain disciplined and compete with enthusiasm, sportsmanship and mutual respect.
