Dharamshala: Marking World Health Day, an Ayushman Arogya Camp organized during the Red Cross Fair at Police Ground, Dharamshala, significantly boosted awareness around public health and accelerated the “TB-Free India” campaign. Kangra Divisional Commissioner Sandeep Kumar attended as the chief guest and inaugurated the camp.

The camp offered essential health services, including hemoglobin tests, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, along with chest X-rays. These facilities enabled early detection of tuberculosis (TB) as well as other non-communicable diseases. Praising the efforts of the health department, the chief guest stated that such outreach camps play a crucial role in bringing healthcare services closer to people and encouraging regular health check-ups.

District Health Officer and TB Officer Dr. R.K. Sood informed that under the TB-Free India campaign, similar camps are being organized regularly in high-risk villages and urban wards. A key highlight of the camp was the use of modern technology, including a battery-operated, AI-enabled handheld X-ray machine capable of delivering results within a minute, ensuring quick diagnosis and timely intervention.

In a remarkable display of dedication, when the equipment batteries ran out, the medical team continued services by charging devices using car chargers, ensuring uninterrupted care and no inconvenience to beneficiaries.

Padma Shri awardee Dr. Omesh Bharti, Deputy Director of Health and Family Welfare, interacted with the public and emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyles. He also educated attendees on first aid measures for snake bites and dog bites, urging people to avoid superstitions and rely on scientific medical advice.

The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Hem Raj Bairwa, ADC Vinay Kumar, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Vivek Karol, and representatives from the World Health Organization, along with other healthcare officials. Activities like a baby show and a live health quiz added engagement, with enthusiastic participation from the public.

A total of 52 individuals benefited from the health screenings. Notably, Dr. Omesh Bharti himself underwent a chest X-ray, setting an example and encouraging others to adopt regular health check-ups.

An exhibition on TB and HIV/AIDS also drew attention, explaining global End AIDS 95-95-95 targets and strategies of the TB-Free India campaign in a simple manner. Overall, the event highlighted the importance of collective efforts in tackling public health challenges and spreading awareness at the grassroots level.
