Chaitra Navratri Fair Begins at Jawalamukhi Temple with Flag Hoisting Ceremony
The Chaitra Navratri fair commenced with traditional rituals at the revered Jawalamukhi Temple today, marked by the ceremonial hoisting of the sacred flag. Local MLA Sanjay Rattan performed the ritual in the presence of temple officer Ajay Mandyal and other administrative officials. A large number of devotees thronged the temple permises from early morning, and the atmosphere resonated with chants in praise of the Goddess.
During the Navratri fair, the temple is witnessing a vibrant and devotional ambiance. Devotees from across the country are arriving to offer their prayers, showcasing deep faith and devotion at this sacred shrine.
According to mythological beliefs, Jawalamukhi is one of the prominent Shaktipeeths, where the tongue of Goddess Sati is believed to have fallen. Ancient texts like Tantra Chudamani also mention this sacred site. The temple is unique as the Goddess is worshipped in the form of eternal flames (Jyoti), rather than an idol.
Nestled in the Shivalik hills, the sanctum of the temple houses nine eternal flames, known as Mahakali, Annapurna, Chandi, Hinglaj, Vindhyavasini, Mahalakshmi, Saraswati, Ambika, and Anjana. Devotees perform circumambulation (parikrama) of these sacred flames. It is considered one of the rare temples in the world where no idol is worshipped—only the divine flame represents the Goddess.
The temple follows a daily schedule of five aartis. The Mangla Aarti is performed at 5:00 AM when the temple doors open, followed by other rituals including the noon aarti at 12:00 PM with offerings. The Sandhya Aarti takes place at 7:00 PM, and the Shayan Aarti at around 9:30 PM, which is attended by a large number of devotees.
SDM Jawalamukhi Sanjeev Sharma stated that all necessary arrangements have been made to facilitate the influx of pilgrims during Navratri. Special attention has been given to sanitation, with additional cleaning staff deployed across the town and temple premises.
Superintendent of Police Dehra, Mayank Chaudhary, informed that tight security arrangements have been put in place. Security checkpoints have been established at various locations, and personnel will maintain round-the-clock vigilance. Additionally, a temporary health camp has been set up within the temple premises to address any medical needs of the devotees.
